Sharjah’s role in aviation began over seven decades ago, establishing the UAE’s first airport. In partnership with Serco since 1947, we’ve become a trusted name in aviation, built on resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to quality
“Our focus is on aviation safety, modern technology, infrastructure, and building local expertise to secure aviation’s future.”
H.E. Sheikh Khalid Issam Al Qassimi
Chairman of the Department of Civil Aviation
For over 75 years, Sharjah’s Department of Civil Aviation and Serco have partnered to pioneer aviation in the UAE, from opening the nation’s first airport to building a trusted name in air traffic services. As aviation training standards evolve, so too has this partnership. In response to the recent requirements by the UAE’s General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) and Procedures for Air Navigation Service Providers (PANS), Sharjah DCA and Serco established the Sharjah Training Centre for Airport Sciences (STCAS).
Commitment to Quality
STCAS embodies Sharjah DCA’s and Serco’s commitment to excellence through competency-based training, ensuring that every graduate is prepared to meet the dynamic needs of today’s aviation landscape.
This transition was marked by a series of milestones: from early training initiatives to today’s advanced simulator installations, which provide hands-on learning through real-world scenarios. Together, Sharjah DCA and Serco continue to lead, preparing the next generation of aviation professionals to uphold international standards and bring Sharjah’s legacy into the future.
